Gezhi Explains Differences Between VNA Racking and Double Deep Racking

Gezhi compares the features and differences between Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) racking and double deep pallet racking.

1. VNA Racking
Modified from standard beam racking, it is fitted with ground guide rails for forklifts. Its 1600–2000mm narrow aisles boost space utilization by about 20% over ordinary racks. Special 3-way stackers are mandatory, and skilled operators are required. It is ideal for enterprises with high warehouse rent and high-density storage demands.

2. Double Deep Pallet Racking
Developed from heavy-duty beam racks, it doubles storage capacity with a 42% floor utilization rate and a maximum working height of 8m. Only 50% of goods are directly accessible, fitting warehouses with low inventory turnover. It requires scissors reach forklifts without floor rails, widely used in tobacco, food & beverage and packaging industries.

3. Key Differences
Layout: VNA racking installs ground rails between paired racks; double deep racking adopts back-to-back double rows without rails.
Equipment: VNA racking uses high-cost 3-way stackers, while double deep racking matches scissors reach forklifts.
The biggest distinction lies in supporting forklifts and ground guide rails.
