Main Components of Automated Storage and Retrieval System

Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) is widely adopted across numerous industries including machinery, light industry, materials supply, pharmaceuticals, electrical appliances, commerce, distribution centers, military logistics, textiles and tobacco. It refers to a high-rise rack warehouse system for multi-tier goods storage, typically composed of an automatic control system, monitoring system, Warehouse Management System (WMS), high-bay racking, stacker cranes, automated inbound/outbound handling systems and robotic palletizing systems.
AS/RS maximizes warehouse space utilization, integrates logistics resources, streamlines logistics workflows, shortens operation cycles, boosts logistics efficiency and cuts operational costs. While constructing the automated warehouse, it enables standardized and normalized logistics management. Capable of supporting comprehensive goods management, control and distribution with stable high performance, an AS/RS is a highly automated and information-based logistics system integrating goods retrieval, storage, demand forecasting and other functions.
Equipped with advanced automated material handling equipment, AS/RS enables fully automatic in-warehouse storage and retrieval of goods. It can also seamlessly connect with external logistics equipment such as conveyors, RGVs and AGVs. Via computer management platforms and automated handling machines, the warehouse becomes a critical node in an enterprise’s production logistics chain, forming a fully automated logistics system known as “dynamic storage” — a prominent technical trend in modern automated warehouse development.
